Documentary Series
It’s
Your World is an exciting, environmentally-conscious
travel documentary series in which our hosts traverse the
globe in search of extraordinary individuals making a difference.
From the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal to the rainforests
of Madagascar, the team work with groups passionate about
social and environmental change. Along the way, they connect
with communities, spotlight pressing issues, and take part
in projects – empowering others to reduce their footprint
by getting involved.
In
the wake of global climate concerns and ecological crises,
accelerated modernization and unprecedented wildlife extinction,
It’s Your World is a journey inspired by questions and
motivated towards solutions.
The hosts
work alongside inspiring individuals who have dedicated their
lives to community and conservation work – often at
great personal and professional risk. Some groups devote their
time and resources rescuing and rehabilitating threatened
and endangered species, many of which have been confiscated
from the illegal pet and animal trade. These include the Asian
elephant, Red Panda and many species of gibbons.
The docu-series, filmed in HDV, is part investigative, part
adventure and wholly participatory – showing how volunteering
can be a viable, rewarding alternative to typical tourism.
Tim
Gorski, Mei-Ling McNamara, Jon Kane, and Chris Borromeo are
filmmakers, writers, performers and travellers with an insatiable
wanderlust, a craving for adventure, and a desire to help
redress the earth’s imbalance. From filming exposés
on the inhumane treatment of captive wildlife in the U.S.,
spearheading HIV/AIDS radio campaigns in Madagascar, documenting
illegal whaling activities in Antarctica, or photographing
wildlife in the reserves of South Africa, every team member
brings their own cache of experience and passion to It's
Your World.

A
majority of the tourist destinations in Thailand have not
been lost due to the tsunami, however the country suffers
from a severe decline in tourism.

There are over 100 orphans from the Island of Ko Phi Phi alone.

And over 200 volunteers on the island right now, rebuilding.

Valerie Austin teaches survivors self-hypnosis.

Through all the ruin there is still hope. The Simon Cabaret
in Patong, Phuket. Phuket is fully recovered and open for
business.
This
was the largest natural disaster in modern history, many villages
were completely destroyed but with the grace and resiliance
of the Thai people and thousands of international volunteers
the communities are recovering.

After a
few hard days work in the south you can slow down in Pai.
Or visit the caves in Sappong or simply kick back on the island.
The team
designed an MFA thesis/Fulbright Scholarship project that
explores the natural wonder and cultural beauty of Thailand
while promoting eco-friendly tourism. We explore the remarkable
hero journeys of survivors and volunteers along the way.
Two of the filmmakers involved in this project have a unique
perspective and relationship with South East Asia as they
have experienced the devastating tsunami first hand, Tim was
in Thailand and Valerie in Malaysia. They lived it. They felt
the wave of emotions, hours of paranoia, days of uncertainty.
They worked in the aftermath days of rescue and relief while
stranded on remote islands with thousands of dead and wounded.
They worked side by side with locals and tourists as national
boundaries and cultural differences were overthrown by the
overwhelming desire to help. This project is their contribution
to the country they feel so strongly connected to and fondly
refer to as “The Land of Smiles.”
